NVIDIA expands Agent Toolkit around company knowledge and runtime control
Agent Knowledge Foundation combines business-data interpretation, retrieval and structured models with a separate governed execution layer.

NVIDIA’s October 21 announcement expands Agent Toolkit with Agent Knowledge Foundation, connecting company information to business concepts, retrieval and prediction. The system story is broader than a new model: it combines data and tools with OpenShell runtime controls and NemoClaw reference designs. These layers answer different questions about what an agent knows and what it is permitted to do.

At a glance
- Agent Knowledge Foundation includes CUDA-X libraries and a new Auto-Ontology library for mapping raw data to concepts such as customers, products and orders and their relationships.
- NVIDIA reports partner uses of Nemotron Retriever and Kumo components, but the SAP, ServiceNow and OpenSearch outcomes concern different deployments. They are not a shared benchmark or a universal speed and quality guarantee.
Business meaning is a separate layer from raw data access
The new Agent Knowledge Foundation is presented as a way to turn enterprise data into information agents can use for questions, predictions and decisions. Its Auto-Ontology library maps raw records to familiar business entities and relations, such as customers, products and orders. CUDA-X libraries named in the announcement include cuDF, cuGraph, cuML, cuOpt and cuVS. NVIDIA says companies can use the foundation without moving their data, rebuilding workflows or changing governance controls. We retain that as the vendor’s integration claim, not proof that every connector and deployment has identical data residency. Our analysis is that mapping meaning is important because a record’s business context can determine which answer is relevant. Teams still need to verify that the inferred entities and relationships match their own definitions.
Retrieval and structured prediction should not be collapsed
The foundation includes Nemotron Retriever and Kumo Structured components. NVIDIA lists Kumo Tabular, Kumo Relational, Kumo Time Series and Kumo Forecast, but naming them together does not make their tasks interchangeable. Retrieving relevant material supplies context; predicting an outcome from structured data serves a different purpose and needs its own evaluation. For example, our hypothetical order-support agent might retrieve the applicable policy and separately estimate a delivery risk. The first output should link back to the correct policy, while the second needs a target, observation window and reference outcomes. That example is our analysis, not a product capability independently demonstrated here.
Execution boundaries remain distinct from model intelligence
OpenShell supplies the runtime boundary for controlling agent access and actions. NemoClaw blueprints provide reference designs for specialized agents; NVIDIA describes the newest optimization blueprint as a starting procedure for improving agent intelligence over time. NeMo Relay and NeMo Compass are also listed as tools and skills, without enough detail in this post to infer every operational behavior. A reference design does not by itself certify an implementation or make continuous improvement automatic. Our analysis is to keep knowledge selection and execution permission separately testable: an agent can retrieve a convincing document and still lack authority to modify the associated record. Runtime configuration must express that distinction rather than relying on the model to infer permission from a useful answer.
Partner measurements are examples with different denominators
NVIDIA describes its own supply-chain organization using the foundation through Palantir Foundry, Ontology and AIP. Databricks pairs Kumo Anomaly with Genie Ontology, while Snowflake enables Kumo Engine and Kumo Relational in notebook environments. The article also reports OpenSearch relevance gains with fewer search steps and virtually no added latency, an SAP fine-tuned reranker running nearly three times faster, and ServiceNow improving reranking quality while reducing latency by nearly a quarter. Zoom is described as using Retriever for document and search context. These are different organizations, tasks and comparisons, not one cross-provider test. The post does not provide complete configurations, sample sizes or common quality criteria to reproduce a universal multiplier. We preserve the attribution and do not turn partner membership into confirmed availability in every customer account.
Turn the stack into a narrow, auditable acceptance test
Our suggested evaluation begins with one business question, an explicit data boundary and a permitted action set. Verify entity mappings against known records, trace retrieved context to its source and evaluate predictions against suitable outcomes rather than text plausibility. Exercise an allowed operation and a denied operation, then check what the logs actually record. Preserve model, tool, data and policy versions so a changed answer can be investigated. These are proposed checks, not tests conducted for this article. Open-source components and partner adoption do not establish free hosted service, a public price or an enterprise-wide access entitlement. The useful result is a bounded workflow whose evidence and authority can be checked separately, with cost, latency and quality measured on its actual workload.
Why it matters
Our analysis: useful enterprise grounding needs both an explainable connection to business records and enforceable execution permissions. Improving retrieval cannot itself authorize an action, and adding a runtime boundary does not prove the retrieved evidence is correct.
